Natalie Stovall is probably best known by the mainstream community for her fleeting, but rather tumultuous journey on The Voice. However, having already proven herself a striking vocalist and compelling performer as part of Natalie Stovall and the Drive, the 2017 The Voice alumnus is approaching 2018 with zest, vigor and a new release. We caught up with her to find out more.

2017 - what will you look back on most fondly from the year?

Recording new music with my band and Brad Hill. We had so much fun in the studio and I am really proud of the sound we are exploring!

Did you make any new year's resolutions at the outset of 2017?

To practice more! Sometimes I get caught up in writing and playing the songs in my show and don’t practice enough outside of that.

What was the biggest lesson you learned in 2017 so far?

Not to take things too seriously! Being on a reality TV show will teach you that quickly!

What was the musical highlight of 2017?

Realeasing Wine or Whiskey to the world!

Who are you excited to hear from in 2018?

Maren Morris. She’s been working on new music and just keeps breaking down all kinds of barriers and I love it. Can’t wait to hear what she does next.

Tell us about your new song "Wine Or Whiskey”?

It’s an exploration of (what feels like) a frozen moment in time - that moment when you know your life is about to change but you don’t know if it’s gonna be everything you’ve ever wanted or if it’s gonna break your heart. You’re not sure if you want to savor the moment or forget it all together.

If you had to pick three artists to be filed next to, who would they be and why?

Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, Garth Brooks. Keith for his musicianship and overall kindness and inclusion with other artists. Miranda for her songwriting and sonic boundary-breaking. Garth for his entertainment and live show and his ability to connect great songs with his crowd.

What inspired "Wine Or Whiskey”?

I feel like I’ve lived in that space where I was “hanging in the balance” a lot more lately than I ever have before. So when I heard this gorgeous song written by 3 of my favorite writers - Lori McKenna, Jimi Westbrook, and Andrew Dorff - came into my life, I knew it was meant for me to bring into the world.

If "Wine Or Whiskey" were an animal, what animal would it be?

A sloth! It’s about a very specific moment that feels like it takes an eternity! Also… the sound of the song itself is slow moving, but you don’t want it to stop.

Define your sound in five words…

Soulful. Voice. Fiddle. Big. Live.

If you could jam with one artist alive or dead, who would it be?

Michael Jackson

If you could have written one song by another artist, what would it be?

The Dance. Garth Brooks.

Someone is making a film of your life, who will play you?

Me!

Lastly, tell us one thing you have never revealed in an interview…

Mamma used to write jokes for Hee-Haw.
