Lot of good music coming out of the Swedish/Danish/Norwegian axis and one of the best is definitely Heat.

Swinging between hard rock, metal and power ballads this album (their 5th I think) has a remarkable confidence and panache about it.

From the opening track, ‘Bastard Of Society’, Eric Gronwell’s vocals peal out and brilliantly offset Dave Dalone’s (David Axelsson) guitar. They don’t just belt out riffs though and the number ebbs and peaks – you can just imagine this one as a live number.

‘Redefined’ shows a more melodic and softer side, Gronwell showing off his singing prowess on a very eighties feeling number – big drumbeats from Crash and whispering keyboards from Jona Tee (Jonas Thegel) as well as some fine harmonies.

One of the best tracks here is the mammoth ‘Best Of The Broken’, loaded with power and fizz, starting with handclaps and just building into a monster rap and chorus. The playing all through the number is committed and they just seem to hit a groove that doesn’t ever need to end.

The negative side of the band is they don’t really have a ‘signature’ sound – they have elements of many other European and American bands in their sound but the plus side is that they do sound damn good.

It is an easy album to listen to, to immerse yourself in. Fine stuff.
