Massive riffs and heavy beats – rock & roll as it should be.

Triggerfinger have been around for a while but this is definitely their best album to date. They hail from Antwerp in Belgium and they have been active on the European scene since around 2002 and in the last 15 years they have amassed a hellacious list of classic gigs, even stepping for the Foo Fighters at Pink Pop when Dave Grohl was hors d’ combat and supporting the Rolling Stones twice.

Ruben Block’s vocals are gruff and edgy while his guitar playing is powerful and full of ‘twang’. Mario Goosens hammers out a heavy and very tasty drum sound while Paul Van Bruystegen plays bass with both massivity and subtlety.

Their last album was ‘Absence Of The Sun’ in 2014 but this new album definitely has a very different sound.
They were loading on the energy before and focussing on the desperate delivery but now they seem to be working hard on writing better songs and concentrating on the musical side of the band – doesn’t mean that the energy isn’t still there but they have definitely tempered it and ained for a more satisfying groove.

I love the title track exploding out of the speakers with a heavy bass line and Block showing real growl in his vocals but they then flow naturally into ‘Flesh Tight’ with a funkier sound and even some strings in the back. ‘Candy Killer’ has a nineties vibe to it – Alice Cooper- ish – and ‘Afterglow’ shows that they can play a more subtle and melodic piece with ease.

One of the best bands to come out of Belgium over the years and the album is definitely one to dip in and out of – a lot.
