The buzz about the Broken Witt Rebels has been building rapidly and when I saw them at the Water Rats in March or so they were second on a bill of unsigned bands but completely in their element, winning the crowd over with some great playing and cheeky passion.

Thursday at Proud in Camden saw them headlining over the Kris Barras band – a Blues favourite of mine – and showing how complete they are as a band, drawing a packed crowd of their own to this intimate and well sorted space.

To be frank, they are probably the most exciting young band I’ve seen this year. The cheeky chappy persona of Danny Corr comes over as confidence rather than arrogance and coupled with his remarkable vocal style he is a superb front man. But that would be nothing without a fine band behind him and in Luke Davis (vocals, bass guitar), James Dudley(drums) and James Tranter (vocals, lead guitar) he has band that really kicks ass.

They mainly featured songs from their three EPs and included a stunning ‘Guns’ to go with crowd favourite ‘Georgia Pine’.

At heart, I am a Blues man and Broken Witt Rebels have enough Blues in their music to satisfy but when you couple that with indie and soulboy styles you get a unique sound. These guys are the real deal.

It has been announced that they have also been nominated for "Best Live Act" and "Best Rock Act" at the first annual Unsigned Music Awards which will be held at The Troxy in London on Thursday 27th October. The band will also close the show performing "Guns".

Add to that, they will be touring as special guests with King King in November and December and it is clear that they are on the up, not just the up and up.
