Canadian pop punkers, Seaway, came to Liverpool recently on their tour with Knuckle Puck and Boston Manor. The band- Ryan, Patrick and Ken sat down with Music News in a skate park near District in Liverpool to discuss touring with their best mates and making music.

Music-News:Hows Liverpool and the tour going?

Ryan: Yeah Liverpool is cool, it’s our third time here and we’re really looking forward to the show tonight.

MN: Do you feel the UK crowds differ to the US ones?

Ryan: I wouldn’t say the kids are going harder, because we play great shows across the US too. But they’re definitely more consistently harder.
Patrick: I feel like there are so many tours that go through the states that it gets saturated. It can be hit or miss sometimes.

MN:How are Knuckle Puck to tour with?

Ryan: We did our first ever tour with Knuckle Puck and they’re good friends of ours so we can’t say anything bad about them.
Ken: I think this our sixth time touring with Knuckle Puck.
Patrick: I’ve definitely seen their live set more than anyone’s ever.

MN:Any of the band have bad touring habits? Anyone a snorer? Anyone steal people’s food?

Patrick: I’m a snorer
Ken: I got yelled at for snoring too.
Ryan: I think when we get a few drinks in us everyone is snoring so our driver is having a hard time with us.

MN: Your second album, Colourblind, came out recently. How do you feel about it six months on?
Ryan: It’s had a really good reaction. This is the first tour we are playing a lot of it on and it’s getting really good reactions. It’s great to see.

MN: What are your favourite tracks off it?
Patrick: We’ve just started to play Stubborn Love and Goon live so at the moment those too because it’s something fresh.
Ryan: Still Weird is up there but we’re not playing that.
Ken: I like playing Trick and Airhead.

MN: With 2 albums and 4 Eps in such a small amount of time, how do you find the time to write so often? What goes into a Seaway song?

Ken: The first few releases we were still in university so it was just us writing when we weren’t studying.
Patrick: We used to have to write with each other over Facetime.
Ken: Now we’re on the road we have to balance it well between here, at home and in the studio.
Patrick: We don’t write that much on the road, it kinda just happens.

MN:Pop Punk has changed over the years, but what were you into growing up?

Ryan: Personally I was into a lot of Blink 182, Sum 41 and Linkin Park. We’ve played in heavier bands, we’ve played in poppier bands but this is what we just landed on.

MN:How did you find the new stuff growing up?

Ryan: There was this station called Much Music which is like the MTV equivalent in Canada. They used to have a punk show that played heavier punk but stuff like Sum 41 slipped in too.

MN:Best part of being in a pop punk band now?

Ken: It’s a really good time at the moment. We’ve played in other bands over the year but pop punk kids are just really stoked to have a good time so it’s great to see.

MN:Sum up Seaway in three words?

Patrick: *sniggers* Best Band Ever
Ken: Dope f**king sh*t.
