I saw Inglorious at a press launch at the Gibson Studio and I was mighty impressed both with their playing ability and the sheer verve and attack of the band.
They went down a storm that night but that was to the press – this was a chance to see if they could cut it in front of a crowd who had paid for their tickets and might have higher expectations – no problem, they nailed it and the crowd were into it from the first notes of the set.
Inglorious are a real rock band in the classic sense. Screaming vocals, humungous riffs, jackhammer drums and more poses than Readers Wives.
Live they have incredible energy and the pace of some of the songs was breathtaking – ‘Breakaway’ is exhausting.
They have the ability to switch things up and change pace, following a wicked version of Whitesnake’s ‘I Surrender’ with a massive ‘High Flying Gypsy’.
Nathan James is well on the way toward being my favourite rock vocalist of the moment and he showed off his range and power throughout the set. With Phil Beaver driving the drums he has all the impetus he could wish for.
Andreas Eriksson was tearing up some superb lead lines - although he was a little low in the mix sometimes – and his hat and long hair give him a very distinctive look. Colin Parkinson’s bass and Wil Taylor’s rhythm guitar take care of the riffs and massive they were too.
I went in wondering if they could cut it on a wet Wednesday in Wolverhampton and on the basis of this show – and the crowd reaction – they won’t have any problems.
Inglorious seem to dig deep into the well of great British rock and come out with holy water. It is a real pleasure to hear a new band deliver like these guys can.
