Bubblegum punk duo The Dollyrots finished 2015 on a high with their Christmas single ‘Let’s Turkey Trot’ and now they have returned with a short but sweet 3 track EP ‘Mama’s Gonna Knock You Out’. Kelly Ogden and Luis Cabezas have created an explosion of catchy melodies and infectious riffs that will only excited their fans more for their up and coming album ‘Family Vacation’.

As soon as you click play you're bombarded with slick definite riffs alongside Ogden’s gritty vocals in ‘Save Me’. It’s great to hear a female vocalist in punk music and Ogden’s vocals have started to push out of the boundaries of bubblegum punk and saunter into the heavy punk genre. The simple lyrics make the track catchy and memorable, especially with the harmonies adding an extra layer to the song.

‘Little Medusa’ is a little less heavy but it still forces you to nod your head in time to the prominent beat. Again the lyrics are very catchy and with an edgier raw bridge, the track is completed and pulled together. The key change proves why The Dollyrots are labelled as bubblegum punk but it suits the duo so perfectly and gives the track a sprinkle of uniqueness.

Finishing the EP is ‘Sweaty Hug My Love’, which is the obvious massive messy pit creator at gigs. The guitar heavy track is still trickled with quieter moments, which gives the song time to build. The track demonstrates how perfectly Ogden and Cabezas’ vocals work together to form a raw gritty sound. Finishing with the spoken line “get your ass over here” and a punchy guitar, the track is just what the EP title suggests, a knock out.
