Wednesday night saw the debut of Inglorious in front of a ravening horde of press and industry types at the Gibson Studios in London. By the end of a short set they had not only grabbed the attention of the crowd but utterly won them over with a set full of power and passion and, in the person of Nathan James, a real frontman.

They have some pretty clear influences – Deep Purple, Zeppelin, Guns & Roses, Aerosmith – but what hard rock band doesn’t? What amazed me was how they took all those influences and didn’t sound like wannabees or a bar cover band.

This is real leather and chains rock & roll, loaded with the kind of high intensity playing that seems reserved for the Death Metal scene but they aren’t short of skills throughout the band, especially Phil Beaver on drums who hammers away like Bonham on speed.

James has fronted the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and sung for Uli Jon Roth so there is no shortage of experience there and his bandmates were picked for being able to work together in an organic way – each player subsumed inti the whole – and it works.

Definitely one of the better launches I have attended: cannot wait for the album to come around in February.
