Mike Murray (vocals / guitar), Joel Metzler (drums) and Chris Krager (bass) formed The Left Ready in June last year and this in the second EP they've released. Once again they have worked with producer Andy Prickett, who worked on One Republic's Waking Up in 2009. That background might lead to you think this rock band like a good melody, and you'd be right. The five tracks here range from Muse-like indulgence (In Like A Lion) to the blues-rock of the excellent Hell In A Handbasket.

Everything here points towards a promising career. There is no flab, no waste. No track lasts more than four minutes and melodies are perfectly sprinkled amidst the guitar fury. This is accessible rock, without being too smooth edged. The EP's closer is the most shiny of the five tracks; Out Like A Lamb would not sound out of place on a My Chemical Romance album. It's anthemic and emotional in all the right ways. Keep an eye on this lot.
