The sun was undecided on the Sunday of Brownstock Festival coming and going with a rhythmic regularity but importantly never threatening rain.
On the main stage Fret gave a nod to London Grammar in ambient style while Luke Gambling offered up some nice political chat on the Treehouse Stage in between some finely presented acoustic numbers. The first feel good moment of the day came from Italian duo M&A whose fluffy electro pop dance tunes showed just why they won Glastonbury’s emerging talent competition getting the extremely chilled out crowd nodding as they lay sprawled in front of the stage, clearly recovering from a big 10th birthday Saturday night with De La Soul the previous night.
House Of Thieves rocked up the Treehouse stage where the chilled vibe continued.
Dexters delivered their raucous brand of slick indie guitar driven angst with ‘Recover’ and ‘The Hard Way’ personal highlights. If a band feeds of the crowd it was a surprise Dexters were still standing as they closed their set with ‘Oceans’ clearly used to a much more lively fanbase.
Cheltenham’s Young Kato followed on the main stage as we ventured to catch Pete Kosanovich in the enticing Slippery Saddle Saloon playing his acoustic fast blues.
Nothing But Thieves managed to get a few revelers to their feet on the main stage, as lead singer Conor’s angelic vocals (reminiscent of a young Thom York) floated fluidly over some cleverly crafted spine-tingling tunes. Prepare to hear more form this young Essex band.
The Milk played a slick, confident, high-pitched set with the brass section pumping hard. Singer, Ricky Nunn, could be the illegitimate son of Mick Hucknall, there must be a few out there after all. His great soul voice and all-round retro sound ticking all boxes.
Bipolar Sunshine chilled the crowd to the max with sweet gently driven beats, over which his poetic verse was delivered after initial microphone volume issues had been resolved.
The Feeling had the days biggest crowd with old and young flocking to the main stage to help in backing singing duties. The Feeling always create a feel good vibe wherever they play and tonight was no exception.
With Razorlight bringing the festival to a close Brownstock’s 10th edition was another chilled out relaxed intimate affair. Travel to and from the festival was also a welcome breath of fresh air, with friendly cabs always on hand. A weekend for all the family to enjoy.
