Kings is the second single to be taken from The Pierces forthcoming album, Creation.

Like its predecessor single, Believe in Me, there’s now a wide spaciousness about their sound, albeit with a production that sounds dated, and not entirely complementary: the drums and rhythms on Kings suffer badly, sounding terribly synthetic. What rescue’s the song from mediocrity is Allison and Catherine Pierces's vocals and their innate understanding of harmonies and melodies, as the song rises, ebbs and flows on the beats.

It’s certainly a step away from their magnificent 2011 album, You and I, and their hippier/folkier origins. And one can’t criticise artists for wanting to experiment but whether this is a step forward we’ll have to wait and see.
