The Black Barn Sessions sprang from an idea Paul had after having many admired artists come into the relaxed atmosphere of the Barn over the years. 1000s of cups of tea later, Paul turned the idea into a reality.

Recorded during the past summer, The Black Barn Sessions consist of 4 bite-sized digital films. These will be shown on Paul’s new YouTube Channel, with a different 15 minute episode released each week. The first fruits of these labours will be shown on Friday December 7th

The filmed sessions see Paul inviting some of his favourite new acts, along with a few more established faces, to turn up, plug in and perform live in his legendary laid back Black Barn Studios in Surrey. Each session will also feature Paul and his band playing a track chosen by Paul from his vast catalogue. Q Magazine’s Chris Catchpole is on hand for a quick chat with everyone taking part.

Speaking about the Black Barn Sessions Paul says:

“I’ve wanted to have a go at my own TV content for a while now. This is me choosing some of my favourite talent that’s out there at the moment and us just plugging in and playing live in my studio "Black Barn". We had a great time making this and I hope everyone enjoys what we’ve done”

Episode 1:

This introduces incendiary Merseyside 3-piece The Mysterines who have been making waves on the live circuit and recently supported the next featured guest - Black Barn regular Miles Kane. Having recently been on tour with Liam Gallagher, the Last Shadow Puppet member and solo artist has begun work on his 4th album which should see the light late next year. Paul digs deep into his back catalogue to perform “Brushed” from the LP “Heavy Soul”.

Episode 2:

This features former dance student from Watford Connie Constance whose recent critically acclaimed debut album “English Rose” included a cover of the Jam song of the same name. Singer-songwriter Samm Henshaw, who cites D’Angelo and Lauren Hill as influences, takes his soul infused groves to the proceedings. Irish band Villager’s mainman Conor O’Brien, brings things to a close. A big fan of Conor’s work Paul approached him to work on a collaboration a while back. Conor wrote the lyrics to the song “The Soul Searchers” which appeared on Paul’s last album “True Meanings”. “Long Time” from “Saturns Pattern is Paul’s choice of live track.

Episode 3:

Connie Constance returns for part 3 along with a second outing from Villager’s Conor O’Brien performing his single “Summer Song” ably abetted by Paul himself. Paul and his band give “Woo Se Mama” from “A Kind Revolution” the live treatment.

Episode 4:

The final episode brings back Miles Kane and his band, and a second appearance from The Mysterines joining Paul’s band, with vocalist Lia Metcalfe sharing vocal duties with Paul on his version of Dr John’s “Walk On Gilded Splinters”.

Paul Weller has finished recording his new album which will be released in the new year.
