BBC Radio 1’s Teen Awards is set to return for a one day spectacular across radio, TV & online, with performances from YUNGBLUD, AJ Tracey and Jax Jones. With a new look this year, the star-studded event will take place at Television Centre in front of an exclusive audience of 500 Radio 1 fans on Sunday 24th November 2019. Hosted by BBC Radio 1 presenters Greg James, Maya Jama and Mollie King, the show will later broadcast on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Two on Saturday 30th November.

For the chance to watch all the action live, listeners aged 14-17 can register for free tickets from 8am on Monday 28th October until 8am on Thursday 31st October via the Radio 1 website bbc.co.uk/radio1. The tickets will be randomly selected in pairs via a ballot.

Yorkshire’s YUNGBLUD has been heavily supported by Annie Mac and Jack Saunders on Radio 1, as well as BBC Music Introducing. He has amassed a sizable online following, with nearly 1.5 million Instagram fans. West London’s AJ Tracey has long been supported by Radio 1 and 1Xtra and his self-titled debut album reached number three earlier this year. His track ‘Ladbroke Grove’ is arguably one of the biggest songs of the summer, spending twelve weeks in the Top 10 and peaking at Number Three.

DJ and producer Jax Jones also hails from London and has a Number One and three Top Five singles under his belt, including collaborations with Demi Lovato, Stefflon Don, Years & Years, Jess Glynne and Mabel to name a few. He has been a mainstay at Radio 1’s Big Weekend over the past couple of years, bringing his carnival vibes to Middlesbrough and Swansea.

Radio 1 will also be presenting an ‘Inspirational Hero Award’ at the event, which is an occasional award given to people who have inspired other teenagers. The last recipient of the award was British Paralympic swimmer Ellie Simmonds.

Greg James says: “We love celebrating some of the most extraordinary teenagers in the country and giving them a day they’ll never forget. Putting on a huge show for our listeners and making sure they feel like the stars of the show for the day is what Radio 1 is all about.”

Maya Jama says: “I am so excited to be presenting at this years’ Radio 1’s Teen Awards - it’s a really important evening and I love seeing everyone so gassed, it’s a really fun night, lots of screaming for my teen heroes too!”

Mollie King says: “The Teen Awards is up there with one of my highlights of the year! It’s an honour to be part of such a special event that celebrates teenage heroes & amazing music. The atmosphere is always electric – I cannot wait, bring it on!”

YUNGBLUD says: “BBC RADIO 1 !!! I’m well excited to play the teen awards show! I’m so excited to be a part of such an incredible celebration of young people and I can already tell it’s gonna be pretty loud!!!“

Jax Jones says: “From the first time I started gravitating towards music as the love of my life, Radio 1 has been my soundtrack - morning, afternoon, night, all week and weekends - I associate so many key moments of my life with music I first heard on the station. And now as an artist it has played the most pivotal role in defining who I am, and exposing my music to their audience. To perform at the Teen Awards is one of the proudest days of my life. If that young Jax in South London would have thought I would be on stage there let alone being played on Radio 1 it would have blown his mind.”

The show will be broadcast on BBC Radio 1 from 12pm on Saturday 30th November and viewers can watch all the best bits on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer later that evening, with highlights available to watch on Radio 1’s YouTube channel.
