A lot of music is released daily. Because of this, it can be quite a challenge to stay current on new performers. So to help update you on the stars of tomorrow, here are the top five rising, promising stars expected to break out this year.
5. Dimash Kudaibergen
25-year-old Dinmukhamed Kanatuly Kudaibergen, a.k.a. Dimash Kudaibergen is an up-and-coming Kazakh singer-songwriter and accomplished multi-instrumentalist. He’s the son of Kazakhstan’s honored music artists Svetlana Aitbayeva and Kanat Kudaibergenuly Aitbayev. Kudaibergen began performing as a child.
At a young age, he’d play the piano and sing in numerous competitions and at various venues in his country. In 2015 he was in the spotlight in Kazakhstan and several other once-Soviet countries when he took top honors at the Slavianski Bazaar in the city of Vitebsk in Belarus. He became famous in China when he performed as a "wildcard competitor" in the television show “Singer 2017.”
4. Ella Mai
Ella Mai (Howell) is a 24-year-old English singer. She is currently with DJ Mustard's hip-hop and R&B label 10 Summers Records. Her music resume already includes a trio of EPs (extended plays) and a full-length album released between 2016 and 2018.
Mai’s most recent release titled “Ella Mai” dropped last October. The platter includes the singles “Trip” and “Boo’d Up.” The latter was recently nominated for two Grammys: Best R&B Song and Song of the Year. As a hip-hop artist, Mai undoubtedly can appreciate the importance of music videos and even the background music for videos.
3. Alec Benjamin
Active in the industry since 2013, 25-year-old American Alec Benjamin is an indie-pop singer-songwriter and guitarist hailing from Phoenix, Arizona. While his demos have garnered him some attention, he is perhaps most famous for his songs "End of the Summer", "I Built A Friend", "Water Fountain", "Let Me Down Slowly" and "Paper Crown." Along with his work as a solo artist, he has also been successful in writing songs with such other entertainers as Jon Bellion. In fact, some of his recent work is highlighted on the song "New York Soul Pt. ii" off of Bellion’s popular platter “The Human Condition.”
2. Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish, born Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell, is a 17-year-old Los Angeles, California-based model, singer and songwriter with Interscope Records. She began performing at the age of eight with the well-known Los Angeles Children's Choir. She has been writing music with her sibling Finneas O'Connell since she was 11.
She garnered a fan base in 2016 when she dropped her first single “Ocean Eyes” on the well-known audio distribution outlet SoundCloud. Her first full-length studio album “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” Debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart earlier this year.
1. Courtney Hadwin
Courtney Ann Hadwin is just 15 years old. She is an English actor, singer, and songwriter. She appeared on ITV’s “The Voice Kids UK 2017.”
She is perhaps best known for her appearance on season 13 of NBC’s popular talent competition “America's Got Talent.” Although she did not win she still scored a record deal with the Arista Records label.
She is inspired by a long list of artists including James Brown, Mick Jagger, Janis Joplin, Little Richard, and many others. Her signature sound is a mix of multiple music genres including funk, rock, and soul. Her premiere platter is expected to drop later this year.
