Madonna today presented the world premiere of her new music video for “Medellín” with Maluma during a globally televised MTV music event, “MTV Presents Madonna Live & Exclusive: ‘Medellín’ Video World Premiere.” Madonna joined British DJ Trevor Nelson and fans live from London for a conversation about the influences of her new album, and the creative forces behind her transcendent career.

“Medellín” collaborator and global Latin superstar Maluma surprised Madonna by joining live from Miami. Madonna also took questions from fans around the world via satellite from MTV’s Sway Calloway and fans in New York City, and from additional MTV-hosted fan events in Milan (hosted by MTV Italy “Riccanza” star Tommaso Zorzi) and São Paulo (hosted by Brazilian entertainer Hugo Gloss).

Full replays of the globally televised special can be watched on MTV’s Facebook and YouTube pages now.

Highlights from “MTV Presents Madonna Live & Exclusive: ‘Medellín’ Video World Premiere”:
● On Madonna’s overall inspiration for the new single: “It doesn’t matter what language people are singing in, or the beat or genre. We will always, in a primal way, be connected through music.”
● On her new album being born in Lisbon: “Basically, I moved to Lisbon to be a soccer mom, and that’s where Madame X was born.”
● On the “Medellín” lyric I took a pill to be naive, to be someone I’ve never been: “When I first started in my career, I was naive but sometimes it’s good to be naive because you’re free and pure in your expression. [With that lyric] I wanted to go back to that time in my life when I was just starting out in New York and I didn’t care what people thought. And that was also during the time when I was 19 and given the name Madame X, and so it has all come full circle.”
● On the “Medellín” music video location: “I took a sip and I had a dream. And that’s where the video got shot.”

Madonna and MTV have shared a history starting with the early premieres of the pop superstar’s boundary-pushing music videos. Madonna has been honored with 24 MTV awards between the “MTV Video Music Awards” and the “MTV EMAs.” Additionally, it was at the inaugural VMAs where the pop icon graced the stage in a wedding dress to perform, “Like a Virgin,” in her first major award show performance.
