Rockaway Beach is a boutique music festival hosted at Butlins Bognor Regis. It's one of a growing number of festivals organised at the famous holiday camps out of season when festival goers can enjoy a weekend of music along with the comfort of a warm bed instead of a sleeping bag in a cold tent.

Day one was kicked off in the Reds venue with a scream and a shout by Glasgow Noise Punk outfit Rapid Tan. Not the kind of act you can ignore, they certainly woke everyone up to be ready for a day packed full of exciting and eclectic emerging and established acts.

Garage rock from Chupa Cabra followed and warmed the stage up before a commanding performance by Madonnatron. The 4 girls from south London stole the show on the Reds stage with tracks from their mesmerising post punk debut album which really is a must listen.

The electronic dance of Benin City finished off proceedings on the Reds stage before the main stage opened.

The Laetitia Sadler Source Ensemble saw Former Stereolab front lady bring her new experimental project to an enthusiastic Butlins Audience.

It was all about girls who play guitars yesterday..London's Goat Girl owned the main stage with tracks from their eponymous debut. Guitarist and Lead singer Lottie's voice is rich, deep and dark and is way beyond her years. These guys will be big.

Headliners Maximo Park finished the day off, fittingly starting with Girls which play guitars! Paul Smith is the archetypal front man. They whipped the crowd right up with classics like Books From Boxes and Graffiti and topped off a great first day at Rockaway Beach 2019....
