English born, German based singer songwriter Alice Merton releases her most upbeat and infectious single to date, ‘Why So Serious’, alongside an off-the-wall official video. It is taken from her forthcoming debut album ‘MINT’ which will be released in January 2019.
After rising to fame with her explosive self-released debut single 'No Roots', it’s been a whirlwind couple of years for Alice Merton. The track has helped Alice rack up over 250M streams and 100M YouTube views, has been certified Platinum in 6 countries, and reached the Top 10 single in 10 countries.
Written by Alice and longtime co-writer / producer Nicolas Rebscher, ‘Why So Serious’ is a song that brings positive light into this sometimes overtly serious world in which we live. With Alice’s positive outlook on life she asks us ‘why so serious, why we so serious, can someone please tell me’. It’s about living every day to the full and a reflection on the pressure of following up a huge hit like ‘No Roots’. ‘I was a little upset that everyone would ask if the next song would be as successful as 'No Roots'. And then I thought, screw this! I'm happy, I have the time of my life, so: Why so serious?’.
After the success Alice has seen across the world it’s the UK where she feels a close affinity with her parents residing on the South Coast where she often visits for inspiration. She has also seen great success in America. After partnering with US label Mom + Pop Records, she has toured stateside with Vance Joy and performed on Jimmy Fallon's The Tonight’s Show, James Corden's The Late Late Show, and at the 2018 Kids Choice Awards in support of a nomination in 'Best Rock' category.
Alice is currently on tour in Europe and plays The Garage in London on September 10th and Manchester's Gorilla on September 11th before heading back to the US.
