This past weekend, Lloyd made a triumphant “Homecoming” to New Orleans, LA.

During Essence Fest, EMPIRE hosted a special homecoming event in order to honor the platinum-certified R&B singer and songwriter as he reaches yet another major career milestone. As the highlight of the event, EMPIRE Founder Ghazi Shami personally presented the artist with a platinum plaque for his single “TRU.”

This happened on the heels of his show-stopping and stunning Essence Fest performance. He turned up with hits like “Bedrock,” “YOU,” and “TRU” on stage and had the capacity crowd singing along and moving to every word. Always a proud New Orleans native, he finished up by second lining through the audience and bringing one of the city’s most identifiable stars, Mannie Fresh, for a lively cover of “Back That Azz Up” by Juvenile.

Just last week, Lloyd ignited his next chapter by unleashing the new single “Caramel”—which The Fader praised as “a rocky uptempo jam laced with plenty of harmony and Lloyd’s signature baby-soft vocals.” It sets the stage for the release of his anxiously awaited forthcoming fifth full-length, TRU—arriving August 31 via Young Goldie Music/EMPIRE.

TRU will undoubtedly be the word for R&B in 2018.

After a five-year hiatus, Lloyd made a triumphant comeback with the 2016 single “Tru.” Not only did it amass 38.8 million Spotify streams, but it also garnered a platinum certification from the RIAA. His ensuing Tru EP notched widespread critical acclaim from The Fader, Billboard, Essence and many more which spawned hits such as “Heavenly Body” [feat. Rick Ross] and “Holding” [feat. Lil Wayne]. That’s just the latest chapter. Over the past decade-plus, his voice has graced countless chart-topping smashes, including “Southside” [feat. Ashanti], “You,” “Get It Shawty,”and Young Money’s “BedRock,” among others.
