Last night, British DJ SIGALA kicked off the 12th Isle of MTV Malta with a little help from fellow Brits ELLA EYRE and PALOMA FAITH.
Some of the biggest names in pop descended upon the historic town of Floriana in the heart of Malta for a night of live music in Il-Fosos Square, with performances from international heartthrob JASON DERULO, triple-threat HAILEE STEINFELD and superstar DJ duo DIMITRI VEGAS and LIKE MIKE who closed the night with a high octane set.
SIGALA and ELLA EYRE prepared the sun-soaked crowd for a night of awe-inspiring performances with their summer anthem Came Here For Love. The chart-topping DJ surprised the audience by welcoming special guest FUSE ODG to the stage, to exclusively perform their tropical floor filler Feels Like Home. To help him close out his set, SIGALA welcomed PALOMA FAITH to the stage for Lullaby, dressed in a stunning blue sequined gown.
Oscar-nominated actress turned pop star, HAILEE STEINFELD, was up next with a jam-packed set of summer hits including Most Girls, which she dedicated to all of the females in the audience. The hitmaker showed just what it takes to wow a crowd with her choreographed dance moves and phenomenal vocals.
Prince of pop JASON DERULO stormed the stage with his squad of dancers, full live band and stunning visual effects, as he kicked things off with Wiggle and Whatcha Say. The crowd pounded the granaries under clouds of confetti right the way through Tip Toe and sang along, as the set ended on a high, with smash hit and ultimate floor filler, Want to Want Me.
DIMITRI VEGAS and LIKE MIKE wrapped things up with a visually stunning set which included bursts of Co2 and lasers. The world’s most acclaimed dance DJ duo took to the decks, spinning hits including new single When I Grow Up featuring Wiz Khalifa and All I Need. The night was brought to a close with the base-heavy banger, Liberte.
Fans around the world were able to join in the fun LIVE via Facebook Live (@IsleofMTVMalta) and www.isleofmtv.com and for the first time, the entire show was linear broadcast LIVE on select MTV channels across Europe including Germany and the Netherlands.
In addition to the performances and main stage action, a host of behind the scenes content forming a Backstage Live stream was presented by MTV’s Becca Dudley, Tinea Taylor, Kay and everyone’s favourite Geordie, Sophie Kasaei.
Following last year’s success, the event has once again been expanded into a week-long festival - Isle of MTV Malta Music Week – which will close on Sunday 1st July with DJ Jax Jones, at the iconic Cafe Del Mar.
