World renowned rock stars X Japan have been announced as the 2017 winner of The SSE Live Awards for The SSE Arena, Wembley. The X Japan World Tour came out on top after securing over 36% of the public vote from an impressive selection of 68 events.

The most successful rock band in Japanese history treated the audience to an exclusive 60 minute cut of their documentary film, which premiered at the previous year’s Sundance Festival, We Are X, followed by a thrilling live performance.

Speaking of the win, the band’s founder and drummer Yoshiki said:

"We're so grateful for the support of our fans, and it's an honour to receive this award. X Japan will try to return after our Coachella performance this year to come back and rock the UK again. Looking forward to seeing you all."

Previous SSE Live Awards title holders Queen & Adam Lambert not only came fourth at The SSE Arena, Wembley but also featured in the top five events at The SSE Hydro in Glasgow and The SSE Arena, Belfast - the only act to ever place in the top five across all three venues.

The top five acts with the most votes in the 2017 SSE Live Awards for The SSE Arena, Wembley were:

The SSE Arena, Wembley certainly lived up to its reputation as the ultimate rock venue in 2017 featuring world renowned acts such as: Alice Cooper, Marilyn Manson, Queens of the Stone Age, Bob Dylan and A Day To Remember.

Rock is also set to play a huge part in the venue’s programme in 2018 with Queen and Adam Lambert returning as well as Stereophonics, Manic Street Preachers, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Bryan Adams, Lenny Kravitz, Def Leppard, Arcade Fire and Hollywood Vampires.

The SSE Live Awards have proved to be hugely popular with fans casting over one million votes across all three SSE venues throughout January. By logging on to www.ssereward.com, fans could vote for their favourite event that took place at the venues throughout 2017.

Hundreds of thousands of fans voted for their favourite events of 2017 across all three of SSE’s sponsored entertainment venues; The SSE Hydro in Glasgow, The SSE Arena, Wembley and The SSE Arena, Belfast. The ground-breaking tennis event Andy Murray Live presented by SSE retained its crown as the winner at The SSE Hydro for the second year running with Irish singer Nathan Carter winning at The SSE Arena, Belfast.
