Kent’s favourite punk rock sons, Slaves are taking their DIY spirit to the next logical step and starting up their own label Girl Fight Records, named after the raucous 15 second track on the band’s debut mini-album.
The inaugural signing to the label is fellow Tunbridge Wells band Lady Bird, a unique three piece punk act whose music blends the storytelling approach of The Streets and Ian Dury, with the guitar driven energy of Blur. Their first release on Girl Fight will be the single ‘Spoons’, a gutters eye-view of a night out in a branch of a certain chain pub. The band will be playing a BBC Introducing show at The Lexington on February 1st.
The label has been launched by Slaves as a way of them being able to support the bands and the music that they love, by-passing the convoluted nature of big record labels and focussing on the nitty gritty. Girl Fight aims to be about great bands, big tunes and a DIY ethic inherited from the band’s punk rock roots.
‘Spoons’ is the perfect first release for the label and is set to be just the beginning for Girl Fight.
