This show by The National represents the conclusion of the first edition of the Elbphilharmonie’s new Reflector series. Under this format, selected artists are, at irregular intervals, given carte blanche to create a kind of musical self-portrait with a number of concerts. Bryce Dessner, guitarist with The National and the first of these concert curators, is an open mind with an impressively broad spectrum of musical modes of expression. He started his artistic career as a guitarist with a rock band, but he now also composes for a wide range of ensembles, from chamber music to orchestral works. Most of his commissions come from renowned ensembles and institutions working in the field of electronic music and film production companies. Dessner also contributed a number of pieces to the soundtrack of the Oscar-winning western The Revenant.

On 20 and 21 October Bryce Dessner takes up the Elbphilharmonie’s invitation to present various aspects of his creative work with guests of his choice. The concerts are already sold out. Two recently added events in the Elbphilharmonie Kaistudio 1 round off the Dessner weekend: a sound installation by Jan St. Werner from the electro duo Mouse on Mars and the wonderful documentary film about The National, Mistaken for Strangers.
