To mark the end of the Hamburg summer holidays, for one week only the Elbphilharmonie is screening live broadcasts from the Grand Hall on its forecourt on the banks of the River Elbe, offering free public screenings of five concerts. From Sunday to Thursday, 27–31 August, live performances by four international orchestras will be broadcast, bringing the three-week Elbphilharmonie Summe series to a close.

The concerts feature the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yu Long and with star violinist Maxim Vengerov, the Baltic Sea Philharmonic under Kristjan Järvi, the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester under Ingo Metzmacher and the Ensemble Anima Eterna Brugge. On 1 September, the Opening Night with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, its chief conductor Thomas Hengelbrock and the actor Klaus Maria Brandauer also takes place in the open air.

NDR Kultur is broadcasting the Opening Night on the radio on 1 September and is also there with live presenters for the first four concert cinema evenings. The public screening initiative is made possible by SAP, principal sponsor of the Elbphilharmonie, which is making its Cube – a digital adventure area with a LED exterior wall – available for audiences outside the Elbphilharmonie for two weeks. SAP’s Cube will also be one of the attractions on the banks of the river during the Hamburg Cruise Days on 8–10 September, during which audiences can experience a selection of the best concert recordings from the Elbphilharmonie’s opening season.

The concert cinema is projected onto the LED wall on one of the Cube’s external walls. The interior of the media cube is also equipped with several monitors showing various films from and about the Elbphilharmonie, such as the spectacular drone flight through the building. The Cube is open to visitors at noon.

To ensure the perfect late-summer outdoor feeling at the public screening, the audience will be free to make themselves comfortable on seat cushions provided on the steps that descend down towards the Elbe. Snacks and drinks will be on sale, as will the strawberry and passion fruit-flavoured Elbphilharmonie-shaped vegan ice lolly that was developed specially for the Elbphilharmonie Summe – unrepentant bliss! The outdoor concert cinema is rounded off with ambient surroundings subtly adjusted to the season. What better way to see off the Hamburg summer!

Those who can’t join the audience on the Elbphilharmonie forecourt can stream the concerts on 27, 29, 30 and 31 August, and on 1 September live online at https://www.elbphilharmonie.de/en/

Since there is no concert in the Elbphilharmonie on Monday, 28 August, a concert recording from the Elbphilharmonie’s 2016/17 season will be shown on the forecourt that evening. Start: 20:00

In the days between the Elbphilharmonie Concert Cinema and the Hamburg Cruise Days (2–7 September), the interior of the Cube on the Elbphilharmonie forecourt remains open to the curious and the inquisitive from 12:00 to 20:00.
