Now into its ninth year, the well-established inner-city musical extravaganza that is Tramlines returns with its biggest, boldest and best festival yet. Taking place from Friday 21st July to Sunday 23rd July, Tramlines has a new-look site now taking place across 5 stages with over 70 genre-spanning acts. Without the hassle of camping and the chance of getting knee deep in mud, plus all the benefits of a festival such as grand production, light and sound, Tramlines is one of the best value festivals around at just £45 plus booking fee for a three-day weekend ticket.
This year once again the line-up is an expertly curated eclectic affair featuring everything from grime to indie, hip hop to dub, soul to funk, reggae to rock, r&b and pop. As such, expect to see spectacular sets from The Libertines, All Saints, Kano, Metronomy, Primal Scream, Toots & The Maytals, Akala, Cabbage, Cate Le Bon, Hot 8 Brass Band, Lady Leshurr, Loyle Carner, M.O, The Gospel House Choir, Omar Souleyman, The Coral, The Magic Gang, The Pharcyde, Twin Atlantic, We Are Scientists, The Age of LUNA, The Big Moon, Blaenavon, Bossy Love, Champion, Don Letts, Estrons, Flamingods, The Heatwave, Lucy Spraggan and tons more.
Since its inception in 2009, Tramlines Festival has carved a name for itself as one of the most genre-busting music festivals around. Always dealing in a mix of internationally acclaimed music legends as well as fresh and exciting up and comers, Tramlines takes a new format in 2017: the ninth edition will be an exclusively outdoor event, spanning three of Sheffield’s best park spaces thereby allowing the festival to bring its biggest lineup to date.
The decision to tweak the format came in response to event organisers listening to feedback from its festival goers. Tramlines Festival Director Sarah Nulty explains:
“After each festival, we turn to our audience to find out what they’d like to see at the next event. The overwhelming feedback was that people wanted to see bigger acts on the Tramlines stages. By streamlining Tramlines to three outdoor spaces, it’s meant we could deliver something really special. Sheffield is often hailed as an 'Outdoor City', and has a ton of public parks, and a third of it sits within the glorious Peak District National Park. It is the UK's leading destination for people seeking outdoor adventure, and we are excited to present a large part of Tramlines 2017 as an outdoor event.”
These spaces include the lush Ponderosa Park home to the Main Stage and the Into The Trees stage; Devonshire Green situated right in the heart of the city centre and home to Stage 2, and the woodland setting of Endcliffe Park, home to the Folk Forest. Additionally for 2017, Tramlines has added the new Momentum Music Fund stage which will be held in the o2 Academy, and the Hallam Shuttle bus to transport people from Ponderosa Park to Endcliffe Park, including one-off performances and solo acts programmed and managed by Sheffield Hallam students.
As for stage breakdowns, the Main Stage will see The Libertines, Twin Atlantic, Primal Scream, We Are Scientists, Toots & The Maytals, Metronomy, The House Gospel Choir, Lady Leshurr and more all play across the weekend, while Devonshire Green will host Kano, The Pharcyde, All Saints, The Coral, The Big Moon and more. The Folk Forest is then the place to catch Cate Le Bon, Blaenavon, Omar Souleyman, The Magic Gang and Goat Girl.
Into The Trees, will feature The Reflex, a disco re-fixer who can claim Noel Gallagher as a fan and has material regularly played on BBC 6 Music by Craig Charles. Also performing is The Heatwave, a dancehall collective with a London twist on the traditional Jamaican sound; legend of the UK reggae scene, Don Letts, alongside multi-genre selectors, Reasons to be Cheerful Soundsystem, and Sheffield party starters, Thirsty Ear. Also performing is Alexander Nut, long time Rinse FM resident and boss of Eglo Records.
Artists performing on the Momentum Music Fund stage include London rapper, Ms Banks; Ghanaaian influenced singer songwriter, Mista Silva; experimental Bahrainians, Flamingods, and much more.
