Depeche Mode will play at the iconic Glasgow Barrowland Ballroom venue on the night of Sunday 26 March. It will be their first live UK show since 2013, and they’ll be performing tracks from their new album Spirit along with classic hits. The last time that Dave, Martin and Andy performed at the 2,000 capacity Barrowland Ballroom was over three decades ago, in 1984 for their Some Great Reward tour.
Broadcasting her BBC Radio 6 Music show live from Glasgow School of Art today, Lauren Laverne revealed the full festival line-up – one which encapsulates the alternative spirit of the network - across the weekend: Goldfrapp, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Belle & Sebastian, Anna Meredith, Bonobo, Ride, Cate Le Bon, The Shins, Future Islands, Sparks, Sleaford Mods, Songhoy Blues, Car Seat Headrest, Warpaint, Loyle Carner, Grandaddy, The Lemon Twigs, Honeyblood, DUDS, Dutch Uncles, Forest Swords, Gaika, Girl Ray, Haley Bonar, Julia Jacklin, Kadhja Bonet, Sacred Paws, Thundercat, and Whitney; with a DJ set from James Lavelle (UNKLE) on Sunday night at Barrowlands ahead of Depeche Mode.
The 6 Music Festival takes place at venues across the city – O2 Academy, Barrowland Ballroom and St Luke’s. Plus 6 Music Festival Late takes place at SWG3 on Saturday 25 March from 11pm-3am. It features DJ sets from Simian Mobile Disco, Nightwave, Optimo, Nan Kolè, Dusky, Rebecca Vasment, Lindstrøm, Jungle, MWX, K4CIE, Femme Fresh, Junglehussy, Andy Butler (Hercules & Love Affair), Happy Meals and 6 Music’s Nemone.
Also announced today is the line-up for 6 Music Festival By Day - a celebration of live music, conversation, comedy and spoken word which takes place at Glasgow’s Tramway on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 March from 11am till 5pm. Highlights include performances from Father John Misty, Edwyn Collins, Sinkane, Temples, Emma Pollock and The Wedding Present, plus appearances from John Lydon, Anna Meredith and Ian Rankin.

Saturday’s Festival By Day features live performances from Temples and Sinkane; a live DJ set from Craig Charles; John Lydon in conversation with Mark Radcliffe; Scottish music legend Edwyn Collins performing tracks and in conversation with Stuart Maconie; Optimo interviewed by Nemone about the 20th anniversary of their legendary club nights at the Sub Club in Glasgow. Shaun Keaveny will be talking comedy with Scottish comedians Fern Brady, Scott Gibson and Limmy. There will be a screening of Lost in France – a film exploring the rise of Scotland’s independent music scene in the ’90s - led by cult label Chemikal Underground followed by a Q&A with its director Niall McCann. And Gideon Coe hosts a discussion, Making Music in Glasgow, with some of Glasgow’s finest musicians Emma Pollock from the Delgados, Stuart Braithwaite from Mogwai, Paul Buchanan from The Blue Nile and Glaswegian synthpop duo Happy Meals.
Sunday’s 6 Music Festival By Day features a Father John Misty performance and interview with Lauren Laverne, live sets from The Wedding Present and Congolese rapper Baloji, Mark Radcliffe hosts folk music from King Creosote, Yorkston/Thorne /Khan, Jesca Hoop and 20 year old rising star Holly Macve. Electronic pioneer Anna Meredith will be in conversation with Mary Anne Hobbs, and champions of Scottish DIY fanzine culture The Pastels will be playing tracks and chatting with Gideon Coe. There is a Spoken Word session with resident 6 Music poet Murray Lachlan Young featuring poetry from Victoria McNulty, Kevin P Gilday and Cat Hepburn featuring performances by Kobi Onyame and Ransom FA; plus a Spoken Word session with readings from one of Scotland’s best known crime writers Ian Rankin.
Wednesday 22 March
On Wednesday 22 March, BBC Music Introducing will be delivering a night of new music from Glasgow’s iconic live music venue, King Tuts. Hosted and curated by 6 Music’s Tom Robinson and BBC Radio Scotland and occasional 6 Music presenter Vic Galloway, the night will feature live performances from Pronto Mama, JR Green, St Martiins and Rituals – all Scottish bands who have uploaded to BBC Music Introducing. Thursday 23 March
On Thursday 23 March, Steve Lamacq (4-7pm) and Marc Riley (7-9pm) will be broadcasting their 6 Music shows live from King Tuts in Glasgow where Marc will have performances from Slug and Field Music. This will be followed by a BBC Radio Scotland and 6 Music simulcast of Quay Sessions, live from Pacific Quay – co-presented by Roddy Hart and Gideon Coe (9pm – 11pm). The show will feature performances from Edwyn Collins and Anchorsong.

Tickets for the 6 Music Festival will be printed with the name of the lead purchaser who will have to show their ID on arrival at the venue to gain entry.
Tonight from 7-9pm (Tuesday), Vic Galloway stands in for Marc Riley on 6 Music and will be revealing details about the Festival Fringe being put on by local promoters and venues in Glasgow in the week leading up to the 6 Music Festival.
Previously, the 6 Music Festival has visited to Bristol (2016), Newcastle (2015) and Salford (2014).
