A spokesperson for Cher has dismissed new tabloid rumours suggesting the pop superstar is secretly suffering from a debilitating illness.

The Believe singer hit headlines on Monday (08Aug16) when a RadarOnline article suggested she has been undergoing "controversial stem cell treatments" to fight the Epstein-Barr virus, a form of herpes, which had reportedly left her on the "brink of death".

Sources told the outlet the "aggressive" experimental medical procedures had saved the 70-year-old's life, but they had taken a "terrible toll" on her looks.

Cher's representative has since shut down the unfounded accusations, branding the latest false report "dog s**t" in a statement issued to GossipCop.com.

The publicist went on to reel off Cher's most recent activities, suggesting if she really was so ill, she would not be living such a jet-setting lifestyle.

"She was on holiday in the South of France recently, went on stage last week to perform with her friend Michael McDonald at The Greek in L.A., attended TED Talks, is campaigning for Hillary Clinton on the East Coast in the next two weeks, (and) starting work on a new album," her rep writes. "We should all have her stamina."

Cher hasn't exactly been hiding away amid the false speculation about her declining health - she is known for keeping in touch with fans via Twitter, and has been repeatedly using the platform to voice her disapproval of Republican U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump.

She recently pledged her support to Trump's rival, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, and promoted an upcoming rally in Provincetown, Massachusetts.

"Going out 2give my support To 'HILL' (sic)," she declared last week (02Aug16). "BEEN WITH HER 4 LONG TIME... SEE HOW YOUNG WE LOOK... IN PROVINCETOWN 21st AUG (sic)".
