Lenny Kravitz told the audience "love is the only solution" as he performed at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Wednesday (27Jul16).
The 52-year-old singer took to the stage to perform his 1989 debut single Let Love Rule. Dedicating the track to Hillary Clinton, the Democratic Party’s candidate for the role of U.S. president, Lenny stated: "We got to let love rule. One God, one planet, one people, and love is the only solution."
Also providing a musical interlude on Wednesday at the DNC were over 40 Broadway stars, who performed their rendition of What The World Needs Now is Love.
The all-star group, which included Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Debra Messing, Audra McDonald and Glee's Darren Criss, initially recorded a version of the song as a tribute to those killed in the mass shooting in Orlando, Florida, last month (Jun16), with proceeds going towards the LGBT Center of Central Florida.
The audience was clearly buoyed by the performance of the track on Wednesday night, chanting "Love trumps hate" after it finished - a reference to Hillary's Republican competitor Donald Trump.
Also on Wednesday night, Hillary got her biggest endorsement to date from current U.S. president Barack Obama as he backed her bid for the White House in the last major speech during his time as commander in chief.
"I can say with confidence there has never been a man or a woman - not me, not Bill (Clinton, former president and Hillary's husband), nobody - more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as president of the United States of America," he said in the speech which took three weeks and six drafts to perfect.
