In an exclusive interview with Total Access, a networked music show broadcast across Wireless Group’s local stations and Virgin Radio, Olly Murs has spoken about the new line up for The X Factor, and the mature sound of his new album.

He told Total access presenter Elliot Holman: “It’s old school – it’s a formula that’s worked before. Louis, Sharon, Simon have always done well together, they’re a funny bunch. Nicole is incredibly sexy. And obviously Dermot is Mr X Factor.

I think it’s a bit like Chris Evans coming into Top Gear. Chris Evans is not a bad presenter – he’s amazing and one of the best – but when you fill in for someone like Jeremy Clarkson there’s very big shoes to fill. Bit like when me and Caroline did X Factor. What Simon’s done is brought back a lot of the familiar faces. I’m sure it’ll be a success.”

On the new album, he also exclusively revealed that he’s only collaborated with women and no men, saying: “The two features that I want are going to be female, no male.”

And he also revealed that his new album is a little different from what he’s previously released: “Wrapped Up and Troublemaker were great songs but for me, but they were generic pop records. They were feel-good, dancing, having a good time. This one has a message in it. It had me in it, proper me. All these songs mean more to me than all the other songs I’ve ever done.

“Even though the other songs had me, the cheeky fun guy, You Don't Know Love is really from the heart and it means a lot to me. I think it is a banger. The reaction’s been fantastic but even if everyone hates it I’m still going to like it.”
