The Spice Girls reunion isn’t what was first rumoured. There will only be three of them.

A new video was released on Friday with Melanie Brown (Mel B), Geri (Halliwell) Horner and Emma Bunton enthusing about their fans, how they have stuck by them all through the years and how there is a big announcement coming just for them. They also implied that they would be using the name “Spice Girls – GEM”. (Geri, Emma, Melanie).

“We want to celebrate and have a party. And when we do, you’re all invited!” The statement is followed on the screen with “Happy 20th birthday to all our fans … This is a celebration for you! … We hope to tell you soon … what you want, what you really really want … #WANNABE”

There has also been confirmation that the three members of the group have been in the studio recording a new song.

It was twenty years ago this week that the Spice Girls, including now missing members Victoria Beckham and Melanie Chisholm blew onto the world music scene with Wannabe, topping the charts in the U.S., U.K., Australia, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden and many other countries. Between 1996 and 2000, they released ten singles in the U.K., nine of which went to number 1 with the remaining one hitting number 2.

Halliwell left the group before they recorded their third and final album, Forever (2000) which came out at the same time as they went on and indefinite hiatus. All five came back seven years later for a world tour and have participated together on projects such as the West End musical Viva Forever! which used their music and for a performance at the closing ceremonies of the London Olympics.

Beckham has shown no interest in a reunion, concentrating on her fashion lines and her family while Chisholm is working on a solo projects.
