Chaka Khan has checked into rehab to battle an addiction to prescription pain medication.
The I'm Every Woman singer has scrapped a string of July (16) concerts in a bid to "get healthy".
The 63-year-old singer "voluntarily" entered the programme, according to her representative.
Chaka was scheduled to play a show at the Stanislaus County Fair in California on 13 July (16), and organisers of the gig have released a statement confirming she will be a no-show.
It reads: "We are extremely disappointed Chaka Khan canceled because we knew how much the community was looking forward to it, yet at the same time we wish her the best in her health and full recovery."
She will be replaced by Jody Watley and Shalamar.
Chaka's dear friend and collaborator Prince lost his life in April (16) as he battled an addiction to strong painkillers he was taking for an ongoing hip injury. The Purple Rain singer, who wrote the soul star's 1984 hit I Feel For You, died at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota following a self-administered overdose of the opiate Fentanyl.
Upon learning of his death, she tweeted: "I LOVED him, the world LOVED him. Now he's at peace with his Father. Rest in power, @prince, my brother."
It is not known if Prince's death had anything to do with Chaka Khan's decision to check into rehab. Khan’s representatives have not revealed why the singer is taking pain medication.
She has battled drug and alcohol addiction in the past, and has been to rehab several times.
