Rap boss Suge Knight has hit Chris Brown with a lawsuit for allegedly having inadequate security at the nightclub where he was shot in 2014.
The incarcerated Death Row Records founder was one of the guests at the R&B star's pre-MTV Video Music Awards party at the 1OAK hotspot in West Hollywood, where a gunman opened fire. Multiple partygoers were injured including Knight, who survived gunshot wounds to the abdomen, chest and left forearm.
And on Monday (27Jun16), Knight filed papers in Los Angeles Superior Court against Brown and bosses of 1OAK, accusing them of failing to hire adequate security for the bash and allowing at least one armed person to enter the venue.
In the papers obtained by the Associated Press, Knight contends party organisers should have taken extra special security precautions because of party host Brown's history of violence, claiming the singer has gang ties and a "well-documented track record of hosting events and/or parties in which violence frequently erupted".
"As a result of the negligence of the defendants, one or more unknown individuals were allowed access to the event with weapons, including firearms," the lawsuit reads. "As a foreseeable result, gunshots were fired by those admitted into the event and (Knight) was shot and seriously injured."
The documents do not mention the amount Knight is seeking in damages, but he is asking for a judgment ordering the defendants to pay past and future medical expenses for his injuries.
Knight has previously cited complications from the injuries sustained in the shooting, including a blood clot, in court appearances on an unrelated hit-and-run murder charge.
Last year (15), he was involved in a bust-up on a movie set in Compton, California, where he struck and killed his friend Terry Carter and injured actor Cle Sloan as he tried to race away from a fight.
His attorneys claim their client feared for his life following the 1OAK incident, and was keen to race away when he struck and killed Carter.
Knight, a two-time convicted felon, is currently in jail awaiting trial.
