Singer Ellie Goulding is hoping the unity which was evident at the Glastonbury festival to continue in the wake of Britain's EU Referendum.
The British singer performed at the annual music festival in Somerset, England on Sunday (26Jun16), just days after the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union.
The decision has caused major divisions between the 'Leave' and 'Remain' camps, but Ellie was pleased to see everyone come together at the festival, and hopes the spirit of the event helps carry the U.K. through uncertain times.
“I know things have been a bit weird the past few days. Actually that’s an understatement,” Ellie said, according to The Mirror. “but it is so nice to be in a place where there is so much unity and where everyone is so happy and friendly and dancing together and laughing together and loving each other.
"I really hope now for this lovely country that I live in and you live in that that sentiment, that spirit of Glastonbury, happens all over the country still, because I know some really terrible things have been happening and I really hope that when you go home that you guys will take that spirit with you,”
The tensions caused by the referendum vote has led to violence and abuse aimed at immigrants living in England - as the immigration issue was one of the main factors behind the vote to leave the EU, and Ellie is encouraging Glastonbury revellers to set a good example in the weeks and months ahead.
"If you see that that spirit is not happening wherever you live, wherever you are, to other people... We are all one person, we are all human beings," she said. "I just want to say I really hope that we can all carry the spirit of Glastonbury home with us, because that would make me very happy.”
