Prince reportedly lay dead for at least six hours before his body was found in an elevator.

The Purple Rain music icon was found unresponsive at his Paisley Park home in Minnesota on 21 April (16), aged 57. The cause of death is still unknown, and now a paramedic who responded to the emergency call has alleged that his body may have lay undiscovered for hours.

Sheriff's deputies received the call at 9:43am, shortly after the Grammy-winner's assistant Meron Bekure and longtime friend Kirk Johnson discovered his body. Prince was pronounced dead just 25 minutes later.

Now, editors at Minneapolis Star Tribune report that the paramedic told law enforcement officers at the scene the musician may have been dead for at least six hours before his body was discovered.

The newspaper also alleges that the day before his body was found, Prince was given intravenous fluids at a Minneapolis hospital, but does not cite a reason for the hospital visit. At the time of his death, Prince's publicist claimed he was suffering from the flu.

Earlier this month (May16), reports suggested the musician had the opioid painkiller Percocet in his system when he was found dead, and sources claim he was taking the drug to cope with a hip issue.

Prince is due to be honoured at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday (22May16), with longtime friend Madonna performing a tribute to the Little Red Corvette hitmaker.
