Rocker and actress Courtney Love and teenager Joey King are to play mother and daughter in the adaptation of Dominique Paul's novel The Possibility of Fireflies.
King, who bears a striking resemblance to Love's real-life daughter Frances Bean Cobain, will star in the coming-of-age film, which is set in the late 1980s.
The Hole singer plays her character's self-destructive mother.
Filming is set to begin in Canada this summer (16), shortly after the release of Independence Day: Resurgence, which features King.
Love has been landing a host of impressive acting gigs in recent years. Since 2014 she has appeared on hit television shows Sons of Anarchy and Empire in addition to securing parts in forthcoming movies The Long Home and The Possibility of Fireflies.
Love is working with some incredibly talented actors on these projects, having starred opposite Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson in Empire as well as James Franco and Josh Hartnett in The Long Home.
However, performing onstage with bands for decades has pretty much eliminated Love's stage fright at this point and instead of feeling intimidated by formidable actors, she finds it easy to plug into their wavelengths.
"I’m really emphatic and unfortunately reactive, so I can’t really hold my own," she explained of her acting technique in an interview with Citizens of Humanity. "If somebody sucks, I’ll probably suck, and if somebody’s really good, then I’ll come up to their level."
Love is taking her acting career seriously and has been studying the craft extensively over the years.
"I’m taking acting classes and that’s where the stamina is, and my acting coach is excellent and I go to class a lot and the more I get on stage and do deeper stuff, the more I really want to do a play," she shared.
