Kelly Rowland has urged new mums to take parenthood "one day at a time" after learning the art of patience when her son was born.

The former Destiny's Child star welcomed her first child, Titan, in November, 2014, and she reveals she worried her impatient nature would make her a bad mum.

"When I found out that I was going to be a mother, I was the mother who didn't know that I had patience," she told People.com. "I was really scared about being a mother, just simply because I didn't think I had enough."

However, Beyonce's best pal soon discovered a new, calmer side to her personality she didn't know existed.

"When my son was born, I was like, 'Oh my God, I don't know where this patience came from!'" she laughed. "I was really happy, and that made me feel better about being a mum."

Kelly, who has credited motherhood with also helping her control her obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) urges, admits she once felt overwhelmed by all the information new mums are inundated with, but she has learned to take it all in her stride as she adapts to her own motherhood journey.

"When I go to the paediatrician and he shows me this whole list of how to keep my kid safe, I'm like, 'Wait a minute, I'm just learning how to breastfeed! I'm just learning how to do this, and I'm just learning how to do that. There's more instructions?'"

And now the 35-year-old insists the best advice she can offer to other new parents is: "One day at a time."

"I think that immediately, when I became pregnant, the first thing you think (about) is just doing a perfect job," she recalled. "You can't think about it like that because love is the perfect job. It's protecting them and making sure that they're happy and that they're going to be safe."

Tiny Titan, now 17-months-old, is Kelly's baby with husband Tim Weatherspoon.
