Prince's lawyer insists the music icon lead a clean lifestyle and didn't have a drug problem.
The Purple Rain singer was found unresponsive in an elevator at his Paisley Park residence in Minnesota on Thursday (21Apr16) but paramedics could not save him. Many rumours have been circulating about his cause of death, including the allegation he overdosed on painkiller Percocet, which he was allegedly taking for hip pain.
L. Londell McMillan, who has had known Prince for 25 years and was once his manager, told The Associated Press on Monday (25Apr16) he is "shocked and overwhelmed" by Prince's death because he was known for his clean lifestyle.
McMillan said Prince was in pain and took medication on occasion but it was never a "cause for concern". He adds, "Everybody who knows Prince knows he wasn't walking around drugged up... That's foolish. No one ever saw Prince and said, 'He looks high'... It wasn't what he was about."
Prince's private jet had to make an emergency landing in Illinois on 15 April (16) as the legend had a health issue which required urgent hospital attention. His publicist blamed the crisis on the flu, but reports suggested it was also drug-related.
However, McMillan says he spoke to Prince two days later and, "He said he was doing perfect... He said, 'OK, I'll call you soon.'"
The lawyer attended the intimate memorial service at Paisley Park on Saturday. Describing the service, McMillan said, "It was a very loving and special, solemn and very appreciative... I think he would have been proud of how we celebrated his life."
The initial autopsy into Prince's death has been conducted but the results have not been released due to further tests.
