will.i.am is teaming up with Apple to develop an unscripted TV series about mobile app culture.
The as-yet-untitled project will highlight stories about how Apple apps are created and developed.
"We’ve seen some really, truly inspiring and incredible stories from our developers in what they’ve done, where they come from, how they started and the problems they’ve solved," Apple executive Eddy Cue tells Billboard.
will.i.am will executive produce the series with veteran TV producers Howard Owens and Ben Silverman, who initially brought the pitch to Apple.
The docu-series is one of the first TV projects from Apple bosses, who have branched out into the medium over the past few months. They previously announced a scripted drama called Vital Signs, starring hip-hop mogul and Apple exec Dr. Dre, and a music docu-series called The Score premiered on Apple Music on Wednesday (23Mar16).
will.i.am has been involved with technological entrepreneurs for years through his charity organisation i.am.angel and he often hosts community focused events at his Los Angeles-based compound called The Future to promote science.
And last year (15) he spoke on why he is so passionate about technology.
"There's this huge void in culture, that's to be filled," he told the BBC. "And that's, what is tomorrow's company of the future to look like? We all know we live in a world where, if I identify with something and someone, I'm going to align with it.
"I think I represent a certain demographic that are taste makers, that will eventually inspire or educate other folk to like it as well. So I'm a taste maker."
