One Direction star Liam Payne and his girlfriend Cheryl Fernandez-Versini are reportedly feeling under “pressure” to make their relationship work.

The heartthrob went public with the British singer, who is 10 years his senior, last month (Feb16) and they have since made no secret of their feelings. When news broke of the new romance, One Direction fans were quick to voice their disapproval and now Cheryl is said to be worried about her future with Liam.

“It was so perfect between them before everyone found out,” a source told Britain’s Heat magazine. “There was no pressure before – no judgements. They were able to go on their holiday to the Maldives together without anyone knowing or commenting. Now, their every move is under scrutiny and Cheryl’s scared that the pressure could prove too much and end up splitting them up.”

Cheryl is said to have been surprised by the reaction to her stepping out with Liam. Sources close to the 32-year-old beauty claim she thought the public would be thrilled to see her find love again, following the recent breakdown of her marriage to French businessman Jean Bernard Fernandez Versini last year (Dec15).

“The loudest voices – no surprise – are coming from the One Direction fans,” the insider explained. “People have been so mean. She can’t help reading them and has even replied to a few. Of course, being slammed makes her question herself and them as a couple….

“Cheryl thought they would go public and become the new golden couple. Instead everyone’s like, ‘WHAT?’ She is pretty taken aback by all the disapproval of the 10 year age gap and it’s really added to the pressure for her and Liam to make it work between them. If they fall apart now, they’ll prove everyone right.”

While Cheryl is deeply committed to Liam, she is finding herself in a new position this time round. The insider claims this is the first time Cheryl’s been the “adult” in the relationship and is used to dating men who take care of her. “It could be good for Cheryl as she’s a great listener,” the source explained.
