Actress and singer Zendaya's mother "freaked out" when she found out she spent a daddy-daughter day watching an R-rated movie about a gigolo.
The 19-year-old may be one of the hottest stars on the planet right now, but she remains modest and still lives at home with her parents Kazembe and Claire. When it comes to spending time with her folks, Zendaya jumps at the chance - regardless of what they do together. One day her father decided to take her to the cinema, but the pair ended up watching something they hadn't intended to.
"Yes actually, I remember - it was by accident, so... This title just speaks for itself, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo," she laughed to talk show host Jimmy Kimmel about the risque 2005 movie. "That was the first one, with my dad! And my mum freaked out when she found out. She was like, 'What did you take my daughter to see?!' But you know what I mean... It was daddy-daughter day, it was an accident, it happened. I don't think he knew how bad it was gonna be, you know what I'm saying? I don't know, I was just too young to watch it, so I didn't really get all of the humour and everything like that, but I have a cool dad so my parents are like, 'If you want to see something, it's alright, if it scares you or whatever, it's your fault. You wanted to see it.' "
Zendaya is admired for her outspoken nature, staying true to herself during interviews and on social media. She boasts over 20 million followers on Instagram and over six million on Twitter, with her followers dubbing themselves 'Z-Swaggers'.
Zendaya isn't too keen on their nickname though, and thinks it might be time they updated it.
"Now, swag was a phase, and swag is now over - it's not the cool thing to do," she explained. "We're in a stage of transitioning, trying to figure out what our new name is, some of them want Dayaholics, I'm like, 'Guys, I can't do that. I can't be a holic of anything, so no on that one.' And then some want Zoldiers, which is kinda cool, like soldiers but with a Z, Z-Force is one of them..."
