Pop superstar Justin Bieber has taken in a new furry friend, just over a year after the death of his beloved puppy Sammy.

The Sorry singer introduced fans to black Labrador Philip on Thursday night (04Feb16), when he shared a series of photos and a video clip of his new addition interacting with his other pet dog, Esther.

Justin also made sure to show Esther some special attention by uploading a snap of himself scratching her behind her ears, captioning it, "Can't make Esther too jealous."

Little Philip's arrival fills the gap left by Justin's rescue dog Sammy, who passed away in December, 2014.

At the time of his death, the singer paid tribute to his pooch by sharing an old photo of the pals cuddling, and wrote, "R.i.p Sammy. You were the best puppy ever."

The 21-year-old had adopted the pooch in 2008, when he moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and even honoured Sammy in an advertisement promoting pet adoption for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' peta2 campaign in 2009.

"We moved to a city where we didn't really know anybody, so I kinda wanted a friend around and Sam was kinda like that friend," he said in the commercial.

In more recent years, the pet lived with his grandparents in his native Ontario, Canada.

The adoption of Justin's new hound is profoundly good news as he recently escaped injury in a car crash in Los Angeles. Pictures emerged of the accident showing his Cadillac Escalade vehicle colliding with a silver Volkswagen that was driving behind it when both cars changed lanes at the same time.

Luckily, the fender bender didn't cause any injuries - to either Justin or the other driver, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper.
