Rene Angelil's funeral service will take place at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, Canada, where he married Celine Dion in 1994.

The music mogul and Celine's long-time manager lost his battle with cancer on Thursday (14Jan16), and now the singer is planning to say farewell to her companion of 30 years at the church where they tied the knot.

"According to his final wishes, his funeral will be held at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, where 21 years ago, he chose to marry the one who will remain as the great love of his life, the artist for which he had the most respect, the woman who gave him light and happiness until his very last breath," his obituary reads, according to People magazine.

The funeral will take place on 22 January (16), almost a week after what would have been Rene's 74th birthday on 16 January (16), and fans have been invited to pay their respects during a A Chapel of Rest event at the Basilica on 21 January (16).

A Celebration of Life tribute ceremony for Angelil will also be held at the Caesars Palace Colosseum in Las Vegas, where his wife has been a regular performer for many years, on 3 February (16).

Angelil leaves behind his wife Dion and their three kids - son Rene-Charles, 14, and five-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson. He was also father to three adult children from his two previous marriages.

Angelil's loved ones have asked fans and friends who cannot attend the tribute events to pay their respects by making donations to the Azar-Angelil Research Chair for ORL Cancer - a research branch at the Saint-Luc hospital in Montreal dedicated to discovering cures and treatments for cancers of the head and neck.
