Singer-and-actress Hilary Duff is "shattered" following the death of her beloved bulldog Frenchie Beau.

The former Lizzie McGuire star shared the sad news on her Instagram account on Tuesday (12Jan16), noting she is in deep mourning over the loss of her pet.

"It's really true that we never know what the day will bring us," she wrote on the picture-sharing website. "I am shattered in a million pieces today because my baby Frenchie Beau has gone to doggy heaven this afternoon."

Although she deeply misses the dog, Duff declined to publish a photo of her late pooch, because looking at his face would likely make her cry.

"I'm sure I will post way too many pictures of him this week but as of now I can't ever bear to look at a photo of his little face that melted me every time," she continued in her Instagram note. "I can't fathom never holding his heaving little head in my hands with his two big eyes looking at me again."

Duff ended her grief-stricken message on a positive note, writing to fans: "Remember every day to be grateful for what we have that makes our hearts happy and full. My naughty boy I will miss you so. Heart. Broken."
