Singer Christina Milian used to be afraid of everything, particularly being poor.

The 34-year-old first found fame as a teenager when she signed a recording contract with Def Jam and released hit singles including AM to PM and When You Look At Me. Although her success produced a tremendous amount of wealth, the newfound affluence also brought on an unshakeable fear.

"I used to be afraid of everything," she confessed to New You magazine. "Running out of money, not being good at something, being nervous. But when I started to try things that I was scared of, like Dancing With The Stars, I found it was never as bad as I thought. The trials and tribulations in my personal life are enough for me to say, 'Okay, get over your fears and just go for it. There is nothing stopping you.'"

Christina's perseverance through times of doubt stems from the values her father instilled in her from a young age.

"My dad always taught me that negative words like 'no and 'can’t' should not be in my vocabulary," she continued. "We have been blessed with opportunity. It’s your job to recognise it and make the most out of what you have."

Christina has certainly done that, as she has two TV shows currently airing, Fox sitcom Grandfathered and her own Christina Milian Turned Up reality show on E!.

"Parents and family make up a core value system for me," she added. "Having a mum and a dad who you know are always imprinted on your life makes a huge difference, from education to relationships to the decisions you make."
