Hailee Steinfeld will always be grateful for Taylor Swift’s advice on how to be a successful singer.

The 18-year-old star is best known for her acting talents, having picked up an Oscar nod for western True Grit and appeared in Pitch Perfect 2, but Hailee made the move into the music industry earlier this year (15), with the release of her single Love Myself, and now she is hoping to make a name for herself as a singer.

The teenager counts Shake It Off singer Taylor as one of her closest pals, and she turned to the star for advice on starting out as a musician.

“One of the first things she told me was, ’You’re going to have to make a lot of decisions - make sure it’s you that’s making them'," Hailee told America’s Vogue magazine. "At that time, I was obviously very thankful for that and I nodded my head yes and we went on to our next conversation.

“It wasn’t until I had to start making decisions that I realised how many people are involved and how important it is that my decisions are being made. And I always think back to when she told me that. I mean, she’s made a few right decisions.”

Love Myself is the first track released from Hailee’s upcoming EP Haiz, which is due for release on 13 November (15).

Haiz features just four songs but Hailee believes it is the perfect debut. However, she has yet to ask Taylor for her opinion on the offering.

“That damn 1989 World Tour is kind of getting in the way of things,” Hailee joked to the publication.

Taylor has been on the road with her 1989 tour since May (15), which will conclude in Melbourne, Australia, on 12 December (15).
