U2 were on the Chris Moyles Show on Radio X this week discussing nerves, warm-ups and U2 facts.
Frontman Bono and bass guitarist Adam Clayton revealed their pre show secrets: they still feel nauseous on gig days, make animal noises and Clayton makes sure his wrist is warmed up…
Chris Moyles quizzed the rock stars on How well U2 know U2. Bono didn’t know when he got his knighthood and Clayton had no idea how many Grammy’s the band had won.
U2 also talked about their strange song requests at weddings and Chris Moyles announced that 'With or Without You' was announced as the seventh most requested song at funerals.
Adam Clayton: AC
Bono: B
Chris Moyles: CM
U2 still get nauseous Performing after all these years.
AC : There are certain songs that I have a little bit of anxiety about, for the first ten years ‘Streets’ was one of those. Cedarwood Road is like that at the moment and Iris, another 10 years and I’ll probably have no anxiety around them. I genuinely feel nauseous on the day of a show, I wake up and feel a little odd.
U2 on their pre show warm ups, Bono makes animal noises, Adam’s is all in the wrist…
B: I make animal noises before I go on stage, I’ve heard other singers, people you really admire in the tv studio doing the same thing. I could never do that, I couldn’t do it in public, but I do now, I make those clucking sounds. If you happen to be in a bathroom near U2’s dressing room, that might be me.
CM: And Adam, what is your warm up ritual?
A: It’s mainly in the wrist…
U2 Quiz, how well do U2 actually know U2?
CM: In which year did Bono receive his knighthood? Bono do you know?
B: I don’t. I’m very pleased to have it by the way, even if I don’t force you to call me it.
CM: It was 2007.
CM: How many Grammy Awards has U2 won?
AC: I think it was about 25
CM: It’s 22.
CM: According to a survey, which U2 single is the seventh most requested song to be played at funerals?
B: We do have people play our songs oddly at weddings which are completely inappropriate. People play songs about splitting up at weddings, 'With or Without you', stuff like that. My guess for funerals, ‘One' which is also an odd one to play.
CM: It is With or Without you.
