Singer Ed Sheeran has been nominated for the coveted Artist of the Year American Music Award.
Those in the running for the prizes were announced on Tuesday (13Oct15), with Joe Jonas and Charlie Puth confirming several of the categories during an appearance on Good Morning America. The most hotly-anticipated prize is the Artist of the Year gong, which sees a massive ten stars battling it out.
Ed will vie against Luke Bryan, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Maroon 5, Sam Smith, Taylor Swift, One Direction, Meghan Trainor and The Weeknd for the prize. That's not the only category he's got a mention in though, with the British star also up for the Song of the Year trophy with ballad Thinking Out Loud. Joining him in that category are Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth for See You Again, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars with Uptown Funk, Taylor Swift for Blank Space and The Weeknd with Can’t Feel My Face. Ed's album that spawned Thinking out Loud, x, is up for the best pop/rock album, alongside Sam Smith's In the Lonely Hour and Taylor Swift's 1989. As if that's not enough, Ed could also be named favourite male pop/rock star if he manages to beat off stiff competition from Nick Jonas and Sam Smith.
Other notable categories include favourite female pop/rock star, where Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor were all mentioned.
There are a phenomenal amount of categories at the AMAs, including things like best soundtrack, best new artist and separate prizes in genres like country, alternative rock, adult contemporary and electronic dance. The ceremony is being hosted by Jennifer Lopez at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on 22 November. She is also set to take to the stage in anticipation of her upcoming Las Vegas residency.
