Absolute Radio have announced man of the moment, singer-songwriter, George Ezra, 80s legends Simple Minds and 90s rockers The Smashing Pumpkinsfor three exclusive, stripped down, live performances at the station’s London HQ this December.
The three acts will play as part of the annual, spine-tingling, Absolute Radio Christmas Sessions, which has seen performances in recent years from the likes of Jake Bugg, Tori Amos, Kodaline, Tom Odell, Stereophonics, Ed Sheeran and Mumford and Sons.
George Ezra rose to prominence with the release of his hit single ‘Budapest’ as he continues to top the charts world-wide with his brand of deep vocals and catchy original songs. ‘Listen to the man’, the second single from his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Wanted on Voyage’, features none other than Sir Ian McKellen in the video.
Simple Minds, the Scottish rockers who shot to fame in the 80s with international hits ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’, ‘Alive and Kicking’ and ‘Belfast Child’, will bring their unique and timeless style to the sessions as the core of the band’s founding members Jim Kerr (vocals), Charlie Burchill (Guitar, Keyboards and more) lead the way. The band’s new album ‘Big Music ‘ has been highly acclaimed as their best in years.
Billy Corgan’s The Smashing Pumpkins made their mark in the 90s with chart-topping albums including ‘Siamese Dream’ and ‘Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness’ which have translated into tens of millions of record sales world-wide. The performance will showcase classic tracks along with songs from their eagerly anticipated 9th studio album ‘Monuments to an Elegy’ out December 9th.
