Ed Sheeran is currently “learning how to booty clap”.

The 23-year-old British musician’s video for his single Sing picked up a trophy at the MTV VMAs Sunday night in the Best Male Video category.

The promo sees a puppet version of the songwriter getting into all kinds of wild rock star situations. And Emil Nava, who directed the music video for Sing, says Ed is mastering some sensational dance moves for his next offering.

"He's learning how to booty clap, among other things," Emil joked to E! News.

"Nicki [Minaj] can't just outdo us. We have to come harder,” he smiled.

Ed also spoke to the outlet about why he and Emil decided to feature a puppet masquerading as himself in the Sing promo.
The singer figured since a marionette was the music video’s main character, it was only logical to have the doll find itself in compromising situations.

"If you're going to spend that amount of money on a puppet you've got to make it do some crazy stuff," Ed mused.

But according to the Thinking Out Loud hitmaker, one critical scene was deleted from the final Sing promo.

This excluded clip saw the puppet snorting cocaine off a stripper and Ed couldn’t allow that to be broadcast.

"I didn't want people to think that was an accurate depiction of me as a person,” Ed said.

Emil claims the incendiary clip might make it to the public in the future.

"I feel like the puppet is Ed's bad twin," the director said. “We have the footage. Maybe in like two years when the video has disappeared a bit and everybody has calmed down we just come back with it."
