Ariana Grande thinks it is “insane” she’s opening the MTV Video Music Awards this weekend.

The 21-year-old singer will be the first to perform at the annual star-studded ceremony this Sunday, only a year after taking the stage for the first time at the event.

And the Problem hitmaker - who released her debut record, Yours Truly, only last August - can’t believe how far she’s come in a mere 12 months.

"To go from performing on the pre-show last year to opening the VMAs this year is utterly insane - and just too crazy to process," she gushed to E! News.

"And I feel like I won't actually process it until after it happens, and then I'll process it as I'm watching it, and then I'll be l like…[whoa] OK, that happened."

Ariana will take the stage to perform her latest hit single, Break Free, at this year’s event, and will also join Nicki Minaj and Jessie J for a live rendition of their single Bang Bang.

The star is currently promoting her latest album, My Everything, which features a ballad co-written by One Direction crooner Harry Styles and songwriter Johan Carlsson.

And she can’t wait for fans to get a taste of Harry’s softer side when they listen to the track, called A Little Big of Your Heart.

"I think people know Harry, of course, first and foremost as a singer, but I think they'll be very impressed when they hear his writing skills," she said.
