Lady Gaga is happiest when singing jazz.

The 28-year-old star is known for pop tunes such as Poker Face and Just Dance but has taken a new musical direction by teaming up with Tony Bennett for album Cheek to Cheek.

It was originally due for release in January but had to be pushed back, with the release now planned for September 23.

The sound is a departure from her previous tunes but luckily her fans are on board.

"Thank you to little monsters who are supporting my new musical journey, I've been singing jazz since I was 13. I've never been so happy. xo," she thanked her followers on Twitter.

"Listen to the music, my dear Tony changed my life (sic)."

Gaga and Tony also introduced the artwork for the upcoming record. In the picture, Gaga is wearing an afro wig and a silky camisole, as she clutches 88-year-old Tony's hand. The singing legend is smiling broadly in a sharp shirt and suit.

Steven Klein @SKstudly I love this photograph, and very honored to be in it with my Tony," she wrote.

"We were just standing there talking, laughing, singing. Then someone very special snapped a memory. The lighting like a painting. (sic)"

Gaga has made Cheek to Cheek available for pre-order on iTunes and it's already hit number 1 in the US jazz chart.

"'Cheek to Cheek' is #1 on the Jazz ITunes Charts in US! Keep spreading the word, let's make the whole world SWING! #TonyGaga (sic)," she encouraged her fans.
